Who I Am
Hi! I’m Carter. I’m an undergraduate at Furman University in Greenville, SC originally hailing from Nashville, TN. Double majoring in Political Science and Business Finance, I’ve collected a breadth of educational experience covering everything from business law to classical political philosophy.
Outside of the classroom, I currently act as the Editor-in-Chief of Furman’s independent newspaper The Paladin. The Paladin has been an incredible experience for me, and continues my five year journalistic journey beginning in high school. I also am a member of the Riley Advance Team, a student group that leads policy-driven discussions around campus. I serve as well as a Student ambassador for the On Discourse Initiative, a Furman flagship program centered on fostering dialogue across differences and commitment to bipartisanship. Whether it’s within my work with On Discourse or the healthy diversity of viewpoints within The Paladin’s opinion section, bipartisanship and diversity of thought is a vital part of my story.
Beyond Furman, I’ve gained vital experience serving both my country and my local Nashville community. This summer, I interned on Capitol Hill on the House Select Committee on the CCP, working in their industrial policy, AI safety, and international finance portfolios. Last summer, I worked in DC at Gilbert LLP, researching and analyzing bankruptcy and mass torts cases for the firm. Between policy roles, I have taught creative writing and songwriting at Barefoot Republic Camp, a Christian non-profit camp based right here in Nashville! Serving my local community in a faith-centered way was an amazing experience, and I hope to continue to uplift overlooked communities with my work in the future.
